A Batavia man will go to prison for forcing his way into someone’s home and starting an early-morning fight.

A Kane County jury on July 16, 2019, convicted 39-year-old Christopher J. Turecek guilty of the offenses of:

• Home invasion, a Class X felony
  
• Aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony

Kane County Assistant State’s Attorneys Vincent Coyle and Christopher McCall presented evidence that early the morning of Sept. 3, 2018, Turecek went to the victim’s home on Brandywine Circle in Batavia and entered the home uninvited.

Turecek and the victim briefly argued before Turecek left. Around 4 a.m. Turecek returned, forced his way into the home and beat up the victim. The victim and another person in the home subdued Turecek and held him down until police arrived and placed him under arrest.

Kane County Associate Judge Kathryn D. Karayannis set Turecek’s next court appearance for 1:30 p.m. Sept. 18, 2019, in Courtroom 313 at the Kane County Judicial Center for motions and sentencing. Turecek faces a sentence of between six and 30 years’ imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Turecek remains in custody at the Kane County jail, where he had been held in lieu of $175,000 bail since his arrest. Judge Karayannis revoked bond upon conviction.

Kane County State’s Attorney Joe McMahon said breaking into someone’s home in the middle of the night “is both criminal and stupid.”

“Mr. Turecek is lucky to be alive. I’m glad the homeowners showed restraint and this situation didn’t escalate further,” he said.
