Kane Waste Haulers Doing Early Pickup Due to Extreme Heat

Most Kane County recycling and waste haulers are moving pickup times a half hour to an hour ahead of the usual schedule Friday (July 19, 2019) due to the extreme heat.

A search of the websites and Facebook posts by waste haulers that service Kane County communities shows that Flood Brothers Disposal, Groot, Lakeshore Recycling and Waste Management are getting out earlier in the day.

Here’s a look at what Kane County waste haulers are saying on their websites and social media, plus information from news releases posted by Kane County municipalities.

Kane County is under an Excessive Heat Warning, issued by the National Weather Service Chicago, now in effect from 10 a.m. Friday to 7 p.m. Saturday.

Advance Disposal

Advanced Disposal, which serves Batavia and Mill Creek, has not mentioned on its website that there are any early pickups due to heat.

Flood Brothers Disposal

Flood Brothers Disposal, which includes the village of Lake in the Hills and Pingree Grove is picking up garbage and recycling an hour early, as of July 18 and will continue at least through Friday, July 19, according to a post on Facebook.

Groot

Groot — which serves Algonquin, Aurora, Big Rock, Burlington, Carpentersville, Sleepy Hollow, South Elgin, West Dundee and Elgin Township, will be picking up garbage and recycling an hour earlier than the usual times.

“Due to the dangerously high temperatures, Groot Waste Management has announced that pickup of garbage and recycling regularly scheduled for Thursday, July 18, and Friday, July 19, 2019 will begin at 5 a.m. instead of the normal 6 a.m. start,” the city of Aurora said in a news release. “Please place containers outside the night before your scheduled pickup.”

Lakeshore Recycling

Lakeshore Recycling, which serves the cities of Geneva and St. Charles, the villages of Elburn, Sugar Grove and Montgomery as well as Virgil and Plato townships,

“Due to the extreme heat in the forecast, Lakeshore Recycling Systems will begin collecting garbage and recycling 30 minutes earlier than normal Thursday and Friday, July 18-19,” the city of Geneva said in a news release. “Refuse drivers normally start their routes at 7 a.m., but the city has granted permission to begin at 6:30 a.m. the next two days to help avoid the brunt of hot weather.”

Geneva residents are encouraged to put their garbage and recycling out this evening to accommodate the schedule change.

MCD Environmental Services

MDC Environmental Services, which holds contracts for Gilberts and Huntley, has not mentioned any pickup changes on its website or Facebook Page.

Waste Management

Waste Management, which serves Elgin, Hampshire, Kaneville, Maple Park, North Aurora, Sun City/Del Webb and Campton Township, is picking up an hour ealier, as well.

“Due to the extreme heat advisory forecasted for Thursday, July 18, and Friday, July 19, Waste Management will be adjusting the drivers start time one hour earlier,” the village of North Aurora said in a news release. “All trash, recycle and yard waste should be placed at the curb before 6 a.m. instead of 7 a.m. for those affected days.”
