NWS: ‘Extended Period of Dangerous Heat’ Starts Wednesday
The National Weather Service Chicago says there’s a significant chance of severe heat Wednesday through Sunday this week — and possibly beyond.
“Heat related deaths are preventable,” the NWS said in its daily Weather Story.
That warning is especially true for pets and children left in vehicles, where the temperature on an 80-degree day can reach 123 degrees in the space of 60 minutes.
Extended Heat Wave
An extended period of dangerous heat is appearing likely from Thursday to Saturday, and possibly into Sunday.
Little night time relief is expected during this period, with low temps falling to the upper 70s.

Heat Indices Near 110
Temperatures will warm into the middle to upper 90s across much of the region Thursday through Saturday.
Combined with increased humidity, heat indices will approach 110 degrees Thursday through Saturday.

Kane County Forecast
As of Tuesday afternoon, the forecast specifically for Kane County calls for temperatures in the 90s from Wednesday through Sunday.
- Wednesday — Patchy fog before 10am. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 90. Heat index values as high as 97. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming south southwest in the afternoon.
- Thursday — A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 94. Breezy, with a southwest wind 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
- Friday — Sunny and hot, with a high near 96.
- Saturday — A slight chance of showers after 1pm. Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 95.
- Sunday — A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 91.
