Plane Crashes, Clips GMC Truck on I-88 — And Pilot Survives
A plane en route to Aurora Airport crash landed on I-88 in Kane County on Monday, clipping a truck along the way — and the pilot miraculously survived.
According to state police and media reports, the as-yet-unidentified pilot was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the GMC truck that was clipped by the plane’s wing was uninjured.
Authorities said the plane had engine trouble after taking off from Waukegan Airport sometime prior to 4 p.m. Monday (July 9, 2019).
The pilot made an emergency landing on the westbound lane of the tollway at around mile post 102, near Kaneville.
Reports said the plane’s wing clipped the GMC truck, then stopped in a grassy area.
The crash is under investigation by the FAA and National Transportation Safety Board, reports said.
