Nicor’s dig crew has managed to shut off the gas leak at outside the Delnor Hospital’s cancer center just after 3 p.m. today (Tuesday, July 16, 2019).

According to a city of Geneva news release, the Geneva Fire Department will be leaving the scene, but repairs to the damaged gas line will be ongoing for the next few hours. Please use caution when driving near the work zone.

The cancer center has concluded its business for the day, and the building is now closed. The facility should be able to reopen Wednesday, July 17, city officials said.

Delnor Hospital and the remainder of the campus buildings are open for their normal business hours today.

Hospital patrons are once again being able to access the campus’ south entrance as traffic returns back to normal.

The Geneva Fire Department and Nicor officials are responding to the Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital campus for a gas leak.

A construction crew working on an expansion project at hospital’s cancer center, 304 Randall Road, accidentally struck a gas line. Firefighters were dispatched to the incident at 12:21 p.m. today (Tuesday, July 16, 2019).

According to a city of Geneva news release, there is no immediate danger as a result of the gas leak.

Delnor cancer center patrons have been sheltered in place and have been permitted to exit the building if needed. Nicor officials on the scene have called for a dig crew, who will determine if the cancer center building needs to be closed down during the repair.

Emergency crews are expected to be at the hospital campus for at least several hours.

Depending on the wind direction, Geneva residents living near Delnor Hospital may smell natural gas in the air.

Delnor’s south campus entrance has been closed due to the incident. The hospital and other campus buildings do remain open and can be accessed at the north entrance of the campus.

However, people that do not have a pressing need to visit the hospital campus are encouraged to stay away from the area as emergency responders and Nicor crews attend to the gas leak. The hospital’s campus security also is helping direct traffic near the impacted area.

Appointments at the cancer center have been cancelled for the remainder of the afternoon. People who had scheduled appointments should call the center’s main number at 630-232-0610 to reschedule.
