Geneva’s iconic, 50-foot spruce tree at the Kane County Courthouse on Third Street — which has stood as the city’s Christmas tree for generations — has been removed and replaced by a new, 20-foot tree on the north side of the courthouse front lawn.

According to a Geneva Chamber of Commerce news release, several bad weather situations in late fall 2018 and early winter 2019 caused great damage to the 50-foot Christmas tree that had been there since the 1980s. For safety reasons, the tree had to be removed.

Geneva Chamber of Commerce member Wasco Nursery & Garden Center in St. Charles planted the new Christmas tree on Tuesday, Aug. 13.

Laura Rush, communications manager for Geneva Chamber of Commerce thanked the generous donors.

“We look forward to watching this 20-foot tree grow to be even taller than its predecessor,” she said. “To add to the inaugural lighting of this tree on Dec. 6, the chamber has some surprises up their holiday sleeves.”

A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place in the near future.
