Illinois’ Largest Folk Music Fest Set For Sept. 1-2 at Island Park in Geneva

The largest folk music festival in the state of Illinois returns on Labor Day weekend 2019 at Island Park in Geneva.

The 43rd Annual Fox Valley Folk Music And Storytelling Festival takes place on Sunday, Sept. 1, and Monday, Sept. 2, presenting more than 100 hours of concerts, workshops, dance and children’s activities showcasing the best in folk music, traditional dance and storytelling.

Plus, a showcase concert of fest artists will be broadcast and streamed on WFMT – 98.7 FM from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31.

The festival is a must-see if you’re in Kane County over the Labor Day weekend.

From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. over two days, you’ll see 35 feature acts, with more than 100 individual performers, on eight stages throughout the 13-acre park along the Fox River.

Other highlights include an Old-Time Community Barn Dance from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Ghost Stories from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday (there’s a $5 fee for that one), Hands-On Workshops and impromptu jamming from area folk music artists. There are food vendors, dozens of craft vendors, a playground for the kids and much more.

Island Park is three blocks from the Chicago Metra station in downtown Geneva. Parking is available at the Kane County Government Center and the or at the Metra station.

An admission donation is requested: $25 per day for adults, $15 for teens and elders. Children 12 and under may attend for free. Organizers also offer a family rate of $55 per day and a $5 discount for folks who attend both days.
