The League of Women Voters of Illinois welcomes a new local chapter in the Aurora Area.

This newly formed chapter serves the Aurora, North Aurora, Montgomery, Oswego and surrounding areas and continues the League of Women Voters mission to encourage informed and active participation in government, work to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influence public policy through education and advocacy.

Carol Tidwell is the president of the new Aurora Area chapter.

According to an LWV of Illinois news release, the Aurora area has not had a League of Women Voters presence in more than a decade.

“For almost 100 years, the League has been an instrumental part of making democracy work for all,” says LWVIL Executive Director Audra Wilson. “Aurora is a dynamic community whose issues are as varied as its demographics. Because of this complexity, the need for this new Aurora Area League could not be more pressing.”

Before becoming an official local league, the Aurora Area members sponsored informational forums for voters for all of the aldermanic races in Aurora for the last election cycle. The forums were well received and signified the need for a formal League in the area.

“We are excited to help every person in the community become an active participant in the issues that matter to them, their families and their communities,” said Carol Tidwell, the newly elected president of the Aurora Area League.

Tidwell, a LWV member of 10 years, has been instrumental in the formation of the new League and will be integral to its new initiatives in the upcoming 2020 election season.
