This year’s recycling extravaganza didn’t include document shredding, but it’s available Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Kane County recycling event on Randall Road in St. Charles.

The event will be held from 8 a.m. to noon at the Kane County Branch Court parking lot at 540 S. Randall in St. Charles.

Kane County will be accepting electronics and books for recycling and documents for shredding.

Electronics

Kane County residents can recycle any size, type or age of computers, keyboards, laptops, printers, cables, stereos, cell phones, microwaves and more. Christmas lights can also be recycled here.

Books

You can recycle books of any age and condition for reuse or recycling. In this area of the recycling event, you can bring shredded paper — documents you have already shredded at home — for recycling.

Documents

Documents of a confidential nature may be shredded for free onsite.

The limit is approximately four boxes per person, and this free service is for residents only. No documents from businesses will be accepted.

No junk — plastic, binder folders, junk mail that is not confidential — will be accepted. It’s OK to leave in staples, paper clips and envelope windows.

Costs

• TVs and computer monitors have a recycling fee, which is paid directly to the non-profit recycler. The fee is $25 for screens under 21 inches, measured diagonally across the screen, or $35 for screens 21 inches or more wide, measured diagonally The fee is payable by the resident with cash or card.
• All else is free to drop off.

Next event

The next event after this one will be on September 14^th, 2019, same place, same hours, and will include electronics, books, document shredding, and paint recycling (paint has a cost).

Not Accepted

Kane County Does not accept hazardous waste or large household appliances like washers and refrigerators.

Weekday Electronics Drop-offs

Kane County also has two Electronics Recycling Drop-off locations that are open Monday through Friday every week.
