Kane County Sheriff Ron Hain announced last week that agreements have been reached with Kaneland and Burlington Central school districts that allow a full-time deputy to be placed in the high schools during the school year.

According to a Sheriff’s Office news release, Hain was committed to returning to the historic agreements under which the Sheriff’s Office and the school districts shared the salary of a deputy at Kaneland High School and at Central High School.

In 2016, an agreement was reached under which the schools paid the full cost of each deputy’s salary.

“The former agreement took money away from our children’s education and is contradictory to our mission to provide safety and support to the two most populated locations in unincorporated Kane County during the school year, our high schools,” Hain said.

The new agreement also provides traffic control at two busy intersections, before and after school. Sheriff’s personnel provide daily support during the morning rush at Dauberman and Keslinger Roads, near Kaneland High School, and at IL Route 47 and Rohrsen Road, for Burlington Central High School, due to roundabout construction in the area.

The school districts agreed to reimburse deputies who perform traffic control service for an hour or two per day.

Hain credited Kaneland School District 302 Superintendent Dr. Todd Laden and Central School District 301 Superintendent Todd Stirn for their commitment to providing the best and most cost-effective services.

The agreements will proceed through County Board committees for approval, with the full vote anticipated at the September County Board meeting.
