At least 14 public safety entities in scores of neighborhoods throughout Kane County are hosting National Night Out events on or during the week of Tuesday, Aug. 6, with tons of free activities, shows, firefighting displays, emergency vehicles, helicopters, food, games and more.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and resident camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. NNO events are held with more than 38 million people in 16,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide.

Kane County Sheriff’s Office

The Kane County Sheriff’s Office hosts the Big Kahuna of National Night Out events from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Kane County Judicial Center campus, 37w755 IL Route 38 in St. Charles.

A special showing of “The Incredibles 2” starts at sundown.

The free event features the popular Flight For Life Airmed 1 helicopter landing, community-building activities, fun and educational resources, visits with Kane County K-9 officers, food and entertainment for kids.

Aurora

Forty neighborhoods throughout Aurora are planning events to celebrate National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2019.

National Night Out culminates annually on the first Tuesday in August in an effort to enhance the relationship between neighbors, public safety officials and city officials while focusing on strengthening a true sense of community.

“National Night Out in Aurora is a night to unite,” said Cheryl Maraffio, the City’s Neighborhood Groups Manager. “This one evening provides both an opportunity to connect with neighbors and a foundation to build upon for future neighborhood-based and community-wide initiatives.”

Aurora’s National Night Out events are held in various neighborhoods throughout each of the city’s ten wards. Each celebration encourages residents to come outside and spend the evening getting to know their neighbors, community partners, public safety, elected and city officials. This year, one of Aurora’s largest and oldest National Night Out celebrations, hosted at Georgetown Park by the GRENO neighborhood group, will celebrate its 15th year anniversary.

Campton Hills

National Night Out in the village of Campton Hills will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6. The location will be on School Street between IL Route 64 and LaFox Road.

The event includes a bicycle safety check, flag ceremony, emergency helicopter fly-in and a demonstration with Koda, Campton Hills’ new K-9 officer.

Activities include face painting, free hot dogs, drinks and ice cream, give-aways from local businesses, face painting and a hula hoop contest.

More than 30 organizations and local businesses will provide safety, health, environmental and community education.

Carpentersville

The village of Carpentersville National Night Out takes place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, at the Police Department, 1200 L.W. Besinger Drive.

Neighborhoods host block parties, cookouts and various other community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel and exhibits. Visit the village of Carpentersville website for more information.

East Dundee, West Dundee And Sleepy Hollow

The Dundee Township Park District celebrates National Night Out in conjunction with East/West Dundee and Sleepy Hollow Police from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, at Huffman Park.

Residents can play games with community police and firefighters as they bring out all of their squads and trucks.

Rosie & The Rivets will perform from 6 p.m. to 7:30 pm. The Lions Club will be giving away free hotdogs, chips and water while supplies last (sponsored by East Dundee) and Culver’s will be giving free custard while supplies last (sponsored by West Dundee).

Thrill seekers can take a ride down the Splash Water Slide. Be on the lookout for Splash, our Dolphin Cove mascot. Climb the climbing tree and participate in golf, baseball, soccer, and tennis challenges.

You may even leave with your favorite balloon creation.

Join the Elburn Police Department for National Night Out from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, at the Elburn Lions Club, 500 S. Filmore St., Elburn, just one block west of South Main Street.

If there is no block party in your neighborhood on Aug. 6,  come to Festival Park and join Elgin’s All-City Block Party National Night Out against Crime!

IF IT RAINS come to The Centre of Elgin in the Heritage Ballroom and in the old library lot! (We learned from the great rainout of 2018.)

This is a family-friendly event and will include 35 community partners that are centering their involvement around crime prevention, safety, health, and resource information.

The Lake in the Hills Police Department invites you to the FREE National Night Out Community Cookoutfrom 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Irv Floress Safety Education Center, 1109 Crystal Lake Road.

Com on out for a police station tour, check out the Flight for Life helicopter up close, watch a live K-9 demo presented by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, visit with the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District, meet “PC” the Patrol Car Robot, see and touch various types of police and fire vehicles, try on a pair of fatal vision impairment goggles, try out the police “simunition” trailer, which contains non-lethal training marking cartridges, visit with our tactical bike and traffic units, and more.

“Don’t forget to enjoy a free hotdog on us!” police officials said. “We hope to see you there!”

From 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, residents in neighborhoods throughout North Aurora and across the nation, are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police.

The village is looking for residents to host their neighbors and register your event to receive visits from officers, fire trucks, and McGruff the Crime Dog!You can choose the times for your own event.

Many neighborhoods throughout North Aurora host a variety of special events such as block parties, cookouts, and other gatherings.  There will be visits from police, including McGruff the Crime Dog, and the fire department.
