$1 Million Solar Road Show Rig Coming To Sept. 28 Aurora GreenFest

The IBEW Solar Roadshow is coming to the Aurora GreenFest!

The Solar Roadshow is a million-dollar rig that is covered with solar panels on top and inside it’s a “museum on wheels,” all about renewable energy like wind and solar. The Roadshow’s solar panels are going to drive a “Solar-Powered Concert” to show solar power in action.

“This will be a real life demonstration of solar panels making clean, green electricity,” said Mavis Bates, festival founder and chairman. “Come and see the future of energy!”

Bates said the Illinois IBEW Renewable Energy Fund promotes the safe and sustainable growth of renewable energy systems in Illinois, and IBEW Local 134 from Chicago was the organization that brought the Solar Roadshow to the Aurora GreenFest.

The GreenFest will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at Prisco Community Center, 150 W. Illinois, Aurora. The GreenFest is free, family-friendly and accessible to all.

“Everything that you have always loved at the GreenFest will be there, too,” Bates said. “We have over 100 exhibitors to help you learn all about saving the planet and saving money at the same time.”

The 2019 Green Car Show is a do-it-yourself car show, with real owners telling you why they love their electric cars. Fox Valley Electric Auto Association is bringing homemade converted vintage electric cars and trucks. Phil and Chris Young, the father and son dynamic duo, will be back with their Home-built Electric Chevrolet S-10 Pickup Truck.

The community marketplace is full of everything you need to make you and your home more beautiful, healthier, and more energy efficient. Local groups will provide fun activities for kids and grown-ups.

Sue Klein will be doing face painting at the greeters’ booth, where attendees can pick up a free canvas bag and program. Wildlife presentations, including eagles, hawks, turtles and snakes are back this year, as well.

The celebration will include a cake cutting ceremony to celebrate the GreenFest’s 10th birthday.

Aurora GreenLights, an affiliate of The Conservation Foundation, organizes the festival, and the Dunham Fund is a major sponsor.
