A Carpentersville man faces criminal charges for being in possession of child pornography and for sharing the pornographic images of children with others.

Kane County State’s Attorney Joe McMahon has charged 55-year-old Edward J. Mrowiec, Jr. with the offenses of:

• Disseminating child pornography, a Class X felony, two counts.
• Possession of child pornography, a Class 2 felony, four counts.

Kane County prosecutors allege in charging documents that Mrowiec possessed on his cell phone four pornographic digital images of a child younger than 13, two of which he had provided to another person.

According to Elgin police, the night of Sept. 2, 2019, an Elgin officer was patrolling in the area of Elgin’s Wing Park when he saw a car in the park’s parking lot. The park was closed at the time. After the officer spoke with the car owner, Mrowiec, who was in the driver’s seat, and a juvenile passenger, the officer brought both to the Elgin Police Department.

At the department, officers found the alleged child pornography on Mrowiec’s cell phone.

Mrowiec appeared Wednesday (Sept. 4, 2019) in Kane County bond court. Kane County Associate Judge Julia A. Yetter set Mrowiec’s bail at $100,000, with 10 percent ($10,000) to apply for bond.

If Mrowiec posts bond he is to have no contact with anyone younger than 18.

Yetter set Mrowiec’s next court appearance for 9 a.m. Sept. 11, 2019, in Courtroom 311 at the Kane County Judicial Center.

The charges against Mrowiec are not proof of guilt. Mrowiec is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
