Detour Set For Stage 2 of Silver Glen Road Bridge Project
OK, the bridge at Silver Glen Road is closed again after a three-day reopening, and there’s a detour in place for Stage 2 of the bridge-improvement project that will be going on through November.
KDOT had reopened the Silver Glen Bridge to one lane of traffic from Sept. 3 through Sept.5 while Canadian National Railroad closed Bowes Road for rail-crossing repairs and upgrades.
With that done, bridge replacement work will continue on Silver Glen Road Bridge, which is located about 0.75 miles west of Randall Road.
A detour for the Silver Glen Road work will once again be in effect restricting any traffic over a maximum width of 10 feet during the second phase of the project. The posted detour route will be Corron Road, Bowes Road, and Randall Road. For a visual representation, see the map embedded below.
The Silver Glen over Otter Creek pedestrian bridge will remain closed for the duration of the project, anticipated to end in November 2019. Pedestrians and bicyclists are advised to follow posted detour signs and will be rerouted across the Silver Glen Road Bridge over Otter Creek, as construction will continue on the existing Pedestrian Bridge.
Pedestrians and bicyclists are advised to use caution or avoid the use of the area during construction for the safety of both the workers and the
residents.
During the working hours of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, the contractor will use both roadway shoulders along the bridge to temporarily store vehicles and equipment. Silver Glen Road will continue to be reduced to one lane of travel, in each direction, during the duration of the project, using temporary traffic signals.
The pedestrian walkway may also be intermittently closed during this time. Motorists are to be cautious and be alert for equipment within the roadway shoulder areas and the workers walking within these areas.
Again, the anticipated completion for the bridge work is November 2019.
Motorists should expect delays while traveling through the work areas and should add additional time to their commutes and may want to consider the use of alternate routes while this work is being completed.
Warning To Drivers
KDOT warns drivers to be prepared to reduce their speed, exercise caution, and be extra alert. Watch for construction workers, construction vehicles entering or leaving the site, and obey flaggers and other traffic control devices within the work zone.
KDOT reminds drivers that is illegal to talk on a cell phone or text while driving through a highway construction work zone. The minimum penalty for speeding in a work zone is $375.
