Fox River Trail in Elgin Closed For Bridge Replacement
A portion of the Fox River Trail in Elgin is closed from now (Sept. 24, 2019) to Oct. 4 for a bridge replacement.
The closure is between Lincoln Avenue to the north and Lovell Street to the south. The closure is signed in both directions to notify trail users.
“The wooden bridge that’s currently in that location is at least 50 years old,” said Forest Preserve District of Kane County Operations Director John Goreth. “It’s part of the old rail line, and was due for replacement.
“We regularly monitor and inspect all 78 bridges within the district, and perform a comprehensive evaluation every five years. This bridge is being replaced as part of our annual trail resurfacing project.
“It’s just one of many drainage repairs that will take place as part of the upcoming trail resurfacing, through this area,” he said.
The present wooden bridge will be replaced with steel I-beams and wooden decking. All work will be performed by the district’s Trades Division.
Fox River Trail users are asked to be mindful of the construction project, and to plan ahead for alternate routes, during that two-week time frame.
