The Kane County Division of Transportation has invested time, money and energy to upgrade the intersection of Main Street Road at Deerpath
Road in Batavia, and we’re about to see the benefits as the intersection goes operational this week.

Starting Friday (Sept. 20, 2019) new traffic signals will be activated and operational at the new and improved intersection.

According to a KDOT news release, the Main Street Road at Deerpath Road improvement consisted of intersection widening with additional turn lanes, storm sewers, new curb and gutter, multi-use path and sidewalk.

Main Street and Deerpath will remain open during the Friday traffic signal turn-on, which will begin at 9 a.m., but there may be periodic traffic
delays while the signal equipment is tested for an estimated duration of a few hours.

Drivers in the area should be prepared to reduce their speed, exercise caution, watch for construction workers and construction vehicles entering or leaving the site, and obey flaggers and other traffic control devices within the work zone. Drivers should expect delays and may want to add additional time to their commutes or consider the use of alternate routes while this work is completed.

KDOT reminds drivers that it is illegal for drivers to talk on a cell phone while driving through a highway construction work zone. The minimum penalty for speeding in a work zone is $250.
