Saturday’s (Sept. 14) Recycling Event Includes Paint, Shredding
Historically, two of the big draws at Kane County recycling events are the opportunities to responsibly dispose of paint and confidential documents.
So this weekend’s event on Saturday, Sept. 14, is a biggy worthy of a mark on your calendar.
The Kane County Recycles Event will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Kane County Branch Court parking lot, 540 S. Randall in St. Charles.
The event includes recycling of electronics, books and paint, and shredding of those confidential documents.
Electronics
Electronics includes computers, keyboards, laptops, printers, televisions (any size, type or age), stereos, cell phones, Christmas lights — and a lot more. A complete list of accepted items, and more information can be found at this page of the Kane County Recycles website.

The good news, as Kane County Recycling Coordinator Jennifer Jarland always says is that “We unload for you!”
Books
Books of any age and condition are collected at this event for reuse or recycling.
At the “books” recycling area, you can also bring shredded paper — from documents you have already shredded at home — and that shredded paper will be recycled.
Just as an FYI, you SHOULD NOT put shredded paper in your curbside recycling bin.
Paint
Paint will be recycled at this event. Paint has a recycling fee per container, payable by the resident with cash or check; see below for costs.

Documents
Documents of a confidential nature may be shredded for free onsite!
There’s a limit of four boxes, and this free service is for residents only. No documents from businesses please.

Costs/Fees
- The fee to recycle TVs and computer monitors is paid directly to the non-profit recycling service. The fee is $25 for screens under 21 inches, measured diagonally across the screen, or $35 for screens 21 inches or more and over. Residents can pay with cash or card.
- The paint recycling fee is per container, and residents can pay via cash or check. The fee for liquid LATEX paint is $1 per quart can, $3 per gallon can, and $10 per five-gallon bucket. The fee for oil-based paint is $4 per quart can, $8 per gallon can, and $20 per five-gallon bucket. Please note that you can recycle oil-based paint for free at the Naperville Hazardous Waste Facility.
- All other recyclables are free to drop-off.
New Location For Next Event!

The next event after this one will be from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 12, and will be for electronics and books only.
It will be held in a new location: at the Illinois Mathematics & Science Academy, 1500 Sullivan Road in Aurora
Miscellaneous
Not accepted: Kane County Recycles does not accept hazardous waste or large household appliances such as washers and refrigerators.
Weekday electronics drop-offs: Kane County also has two Electronics Recycling Drop-off locations that are open Monday through Friday every week. The same fees apply at the drop-off sites.
