Sheriff’s Office Offers New Round of Active-Shooter Survival Presentations
The Kane County Sheriff’s Office is offering a new round of active-shooter presentations, with events scheduled for Oct. 15 and Oct. 24, 2019.
The high-energy and informative presentation by Kane County Sheriff’s Lt. Kevin Williams is titled, “Surviving an Active Shooter at Any Venue,” and is ideal for businesses, churches, senior organizations, conferences or individuals who want to plan and prepare for a mass-shooting situation.
Kane County Sheriff Ron Hain says his office wants you to know what to do when lives are in danger.
“News headlines remind all of us that we need to be aware of our environment,” he said. “Active shooter events can happen anywhere. It has happened here.”
Hain is referring to the Feb. 15 mass shooting at the Henry Pratt manufacturing facility in Aurora, where an armed gunman opened fire, killing five of his co-workers and wounding five police officers.
Since 2007, Williams has conducted active shooter presentations across Kane County to raise awareness and provide tactical preparedness direction to businesses, schools, and churches.
Hain said he is encouraging every adult in Kane County to take advantage of this service.
“The recent tragedy in Aurora is continued proof that firearm violence is possible anywhere in our community,” he said.
The presentations are free. They will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, and Thursday, Oct 24, at the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, 37W755 IL Route 38, St. Charles.
