Fire crews were dispatched at about 7:15 a.m., shortly after the plane left the airport and had a mechanical issue, fire officials said.

Aurora spokesman Clayton Muhammad said the training plane was was about 5,000 feet into its takeoff roll on the east-west runway when it alerted the control tower of the mechanical problem.
