Veterans Resource Tour Set For Sept. 17 at WCC’s Aurora Campus

Is entrepreneurship right for veterans? What kinds of jobs are available for veterans and a match for their skill sets? Are there any benefits for veterans who want to own their own home?

These and other questions will be answered the 2019 Campus Veterans Resource Tour set for Sept. 17 at Waubonsee Community College’s Aurora campus, 18 S. River St.

The WBDC’s office of Veteran Business Assistance Services offers this comprehensive resource workshop tour for veterans and their families in Kane County and across the Chicago area.

This half-day event will provide various sessions surrounding the WBDC’s commitment to veteran education and its entrepreneurial initiative.

The main session topics will focus on Entrepreneurship 101 and marketing your veteran-owned business. As a bonus, the tour will provide two additional workshops for veteran business owners needing additional education and tips: VA Benefits for homeownership and job-readiness skills training for the transitioning veteran.

This event is open to male and female veterans and family members, active duty, reservist, National Guard, students, and civilians.

Topics of discussion will include:

  • “Is Entrepreneurship Right for You? And The 5 M’s of Marketing” — presented by Dr. Makeba Butler, associate director of veteran programs, WBDC
  • “Job-readiness Beyond the Military” — presented by Julie Bechtold, MSEd, LCPC, academic and career advising manager at Waubonsee Community College, and Heather Watson, academic and career advisor for Veteran Services.
  • “VA Benefits for Homeownership” — presented by Barry Johnson, VA loan consultant, Loan Depot.
