Western Avenue Rail Crossing in Geneva Closed For Repairs
The city of Geneva is reporting that the Western Avenue railroad crossing will be closed for repairs this weekend.
The Western Avenue crossing will be shut down to both cars and pedestrians from 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, as Union Pacific makes repairs to the tracks.
Construction crews will be pulling the railroad pads and replacing the rail throughout the crossing.
Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area. Union Pacific has established an official detour route map. City officials ask drivers to disregard the inaccurate compass listed on the Union Pacific map.
Drivers traveling north on Western Avenue should go:
- West on Fabyan Parkway;
- North on Randall Road
- East on South Street;
- East on Kaneville Road;
- South on Burgess Road; and
- East on South Street.
The detour is reversed for those heading west on South Street approaching Western Avenue. Residents also can use Third Street to cross the tracks.
Any future project updates will be posted to the city’s website.
