Fabyan Forest Preserve Island Closed Oct. 14 For Trail Repaving
Yes, there are a lot of units of government, banks and other institutions that are closed on Columbus Day, but you can add to the list one place you might not have expected: the island in the Fabyan Forest Preserve.
The Forest Preserve District of Kane County announced this week that the Fabyan Island, in the Fox River between Fabyan West and Fabyan East Forest Preserve, will be closed Monday, Oct. 14, for trail repaving, as part of a larger bridge construction project.
“Please note that during the island closure, there will be no way to cross the Fox River by trail, to reach the opposite side of the preserve,” Forest Preserve District officials said on the district’s website and social media pages.
The Fabyan island and trail are expected to reopen on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
The Forest Preserve District had removed the Fabyan footbridge back in 2014 due to safety concerns.
According to the Forest Preserve District’s Capital Projects Report, the district plans to remove the causeway to the island following the installation of a new pedestrian bridge.
