Concrete repair work is scheduled to begin Thursday, Oct. 10, on Orchard Road between the I-88 entrance ramps to Indian Trail Road.

According to a Kane County Division of Transportation news release, single-lane closures on northbound and southbound Orchard Road will occur between these intersections in order to safely and efficiently patch portions of the concrete road in need of repair.

The anticipated duration for the concrete repairs includes prep work from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursdays, and removal and
concrete pouring to take place over a few weekends.

Orchard Road will remain open during most of the work, but a permanent lane closure will take place from 9 a.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Monday on the days of Oct. 11 to Oct. 14, Oct. 18 to Oct. 21, and Oct. 25 to Oct. 28, weather permitting.

The improvement will include concrete pavement patching which officials say will extend the life of the roadway.

KDOT officials say motorists should expect “extremely long delays” while traveling through the work areas and should add additional time to their commutes, or seek alternative routes.

Motorists are asked to reduce their speed, watch for construction workers and vehicles entering or leaving the site, obey flaggers and comply with traffic control devices within the work zone. Motorists may want to consider the use of alternate routes while this work is being completed.

KDOT reminds drivers that it is illegal to talk on a cell phone while driving through a highway construction work zone.
