Indiana Man Convicted of Shooting, Beating, Strangling Ex-Wife in Sugar Grove
An Indiana man will go to prison for trying to kill his ex-wife at her place of employment in Sugar Grove in December 2017.
Kane County Circuit Judge Donald M. Tegeler, Jr., on Tuesday (Oct. 22, 2019) convicted 50-year-old Kennrith L. Foster of the offenses of:
- Attempted first-degree murder, a Class X felony.
- Armed robbery, a Class X felony, three counts.
- Armed violence, a Class X felony, three counts.
- Aggravated battery with a firearm, a Class X felony.
- Aggravated domestic battery, a Class 2 felony.
- Unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, a Class 3 felony.
Foster waived his right to a jury trial.
Prosecutors presented evidence that around 3 a.m. Dec. 17, 2017, Foster entered a business in the 300 block of Sugar Grove Parkway, Sugar Grove, in search of his former wife. He approached her, put a handgun to her head and fired a single shot, striking her in the head.
Foster then beat, strangled and stomped the victim before fleeing the scene. The FBI took him into custody 11 days later in Phoenix.
Tegeler set Foster’s next court appearance for 9 a.m. Dec. 23, 2019, in Courtroom 311 at the Kane County Judicial Center for motions and sentencing. Foster faces a minimum sentence of 31 years’ imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Foster remains in custody at the Kane County jail, where he has been held since his arrest in lieu of $1 million bail.
Tegeler revoked bond upon conviction and ordered Foster taken into custody at the Kane County jail.
Kane County State’s Attorney Joe McMahon thanked assistant state’s attorneys Greg Sams and Hillary Sadler, the Sugar Grove Police, the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force and the FBI for their work in bringing Foster to justice.
“By all accounts, Mr. Foster could well have been on trial this week for first-degree murder,” he said. “It is fortunate for everyone that his former wife survived his violent attack and is still alive.”
