A Batavia woman has been sent to prison for stealing money from her former employer.

Aleksandra A. Kunicka has agreed to a sentence of six years’ imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections and to pay full restitution to the business in exchange for a guilty plea two counts of burglary, a Class 2 felony.

Kane County Associate Judge Kathryn D. Karayannis accepted the plea.

Kane County prosecutors stated during the plea hearing that late at night on five occasions in May and June 2018 Kunicka entered a business that had previously employed her in the 100 block of North Batavia Avenue. The business, which was closed, is connected to a gas station that was open at the time. In total Kunicka took $2,634 cash from the cash register, safe or cash box.

Kunicka stole the money to support her heroin addiction.

In accordance with Illinois law, Kunicka is eligible for day-for-day sentencing. Kunicka receives credit for 272 days served in the Kane County jail.

Assistant State’s Attorney Chris McCall prosecuted the case.
