The National Weather Service Chicago says that, before it’s over, Kane County could get anywhere from 2 inches to 6 inches of snow by the end of Veterans Day (Monday, Nov. 11, 2019).

And after that, well, it’s supposed to be cold … with more snow possible Wednesday night.

Winter Weather Update: Monday Morning

On Monday morning, in the heavier snow bands shown in the circled area on the map above, the visibility dropped to a half mile and the northerly winds are gusting to 25 to 30 mph.

There have been reports of some ice on the roads also. The moderate to heavy snow bands are expected to last until noon time.

Use caution while driving as roads are becoming increasingly snow covered and colder air moving into the area will create ice on the roads and make them more slippery.

Accumulating Snow

Snow will continue to develop and continue across the area today (Monday, Nov. 11)

Total snow accumulations of 2 to 6 inches are expected, with the heaviest accumulations over far northern IL and in some locations near Lake Michigan.

Snow will taper off to flurries and end from west to east this afternoon, though lake effect snow showers will persist in parts of northwest Indiana tonight into early Tuesday.

Shoreline Flooding Expected

North-northeast winds will increase to 35 mph and become north.

These strong winds will build waves 8 feet to 14 feet, which may produce flooding and beach erosion along the Lake Michigan shore in northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana.

Wintry Weather This Week

Wintry weather will persist this week, though the snowiest and coldest part will be today and Tuesday.

Accumulating snow will continue today, with record cold for early-November tonight and Tuesday.

Temperatures begin to moderate slightly mid-week, with another chance of light snow Wednesday night.
