Car-Vs.-Semi Crash With Life-Threatening Injuries on Rural Route 38
The Kane County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a serious crash Saturday (Nov. 9, 2019) on rural IL Route 38.
According to a Sheriff’s Office news release, deputies responded at around 5:25 a.m. Saturday to a report of a traffic crash with injuries on IL Route 38 near the intersection of Watson Road in unincorporated Virgil Township.
The initial investigation indicates that a Honda was traveling east on Route 38 and for an unknown reason crossed the center line and was struck head on by a Freightliner semi-trailer truck that was traveling west.
The Honda driver, who was the sole occupant, was flown by helicopter to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Rockford with potential life-threatening injuries. The driver of the semi was uninjured.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by Kane County sheriff’s deputies and members of the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team.
No citations have been issued, and it is not clear if drugs, alcohol or distracted driving played a role in this crash.
Route 38 was closed between Meredith Road and Watson Road while the crash was investigated.
Identification is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
