Fabyan Parkway Bridge Will Remain Limited To 2 Lanes This Winter

Due to unforeseen delays in construction work this summer and fall, the Fabyan Parkway bridge over the Fox River will remain at two lanes this winter.
According to a Kane County Division of Transportation news release, work on the Fabyan Parkway Bridge over the Fox River will cease around the end of November, due to weather constraints.
The bridge will remain in the present two-lane configuration over the winter until work resumes in spring of 2020.
The work is part of the bridge rehabilitation that has been ongoing since June with other work consisting of bridge structural repair, light pole cleaning and painting, and other maintenance activities.
The project is being constructed in multiple stages with a revised anticipated completion date of May 2020, weather permitting.
In September, the Illinois Department of Public Health required the immediate shutdown of this project for two weeks due to the Legionnaires’ disease incident at the adjacent Holmstad facility.
KDOT officials said the shutdown took place at a critical point in the bridge construction and actually resulted in a four-week delay to the project in order to re-engage the subcontractors to return to work.
“Due to the unforeseen delay and unseasonably cold and wet weather conditions, we are unable to complete the remaining bridge deck work this year,” KDOT officials said in the news release. “The remaining bridge deck work requires dry weather consistently above 45 degrees for an entire week in order to place and cure the temperature-sensitive latex concrete successfully.”
KDOT officials ask motorists to use caution while traveling through the staged construction zone as all of the barrels and traffic control devices will stay in place over the winter.
