The Kane County Law Library & Self Help Legal Center, in cooperation with the Kane County 16th Judicial Circuit, will host its 21st annual Family Reading Night with the Judges from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, at the Kane County Law Library, located on the second floor of the Kane County Judicial Center, 37W777 Route 38, St. Charles.

Family Reading Night is the super-popular event for children in second grade or younger in which kids, accompanied by an adult, get a chance to hear a bedtime story read by a judge, tour a courtroom, have some snacks and sit in a real judge’s chair.

This year, your child can hear Associate Judges Bradley David, Charles Petersen and Julia Yetter as they share their favorite bedtime stories.

Attorney Monica Patankar, winner of the 2019 Miss Illinois for America pageant, will make a special guest appearance during this event.

“Enjoy snacks, laughter, and stories as we celebrate the importance of literacy and quality time spent reading with those most important to us.  And don’t forget to wear your pajamas!” Law Librarian Ellen Schmid said in a news release.

Family Reading Night with the Judges is for children in second grade or younger, and an adult must accompany children. Family Reading Night is an annual statewide event sponsored by the Illinois Secretary of State and State Librarian, Jesse White, and Illinois Center for the Book.

About The Kane County Law Library

Located within the Kane County Judicial Complex, the Kane County Law Library is open not only to attorneys and government employees, but to the public as well. Patrons may frequent the library Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. or Wednesdays between 8:30 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Though mainly a reference library housing the county’s core of legal research materials, some publications may be checked out for up to a two week period. The library also offers the service of inter-library loaning items that are not within its own collection. A copier is available for public use for a minimal fee.
