Sheriff’s Deputy Stops Armed Felon Wearing Body Armor
Alert action by a Kane County sheriff’s deputy has resulted in the apprehension of a felon who was armed and wearing body armor at the time of the arrest.
Eric A. Liddell, 44, of Aurora is charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon/possessing body armor, possession of a firearm by a felon, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, obstructing justice and obstructing identification.
According to Kane County Sheriff’s Office reports, a sheriff’s deputy was driving north on IL Route 25 in Aurora at around 2:37 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, when he noticed a dark blue GMC Yukon traveling south without a rear license plate.
The deputy stopped the Yukon at the intersection of Hazel Avenue and Lincoln Avenue, and the driver identified himself as Avery Lewis.
When the deputy asked the man to step outside the vehicle, he noticed a pistol inside a holster sitting between the driver’s seat and the center console, reports said.
Kane County dispatch informed the deputy that Lewis did not have a valid firearm owner’s ID card or conceal and carry permit, so he was placed under arrest for unlawful possession of a firearm.
The firearm was later identified as a .40-caliber Taurus handgun.
At the Kane County jail, the driver of the Yukon admitted his real name is Eric Liddell, who was being sought under an active warrant for fleeing and eluding Cook County officers.
At the jail, deputies discovered Liddell was wearing a Kevlar body armor vest under his clothing.
If convicted of the body armor charge, he could face a sentence of up to 30 years in prison.
Liddell is being held on $250,000 bail. His next court date is Nov. 21.
