‘Snowvembruary’ 11 — Yet Another Record Snow Event in Kane County
Kane County saw yet another record-breaking, early-season snow event in what the National Weather Service Chicago is calling “Snowvembruary 11th, 2019.
As you can see in the graphic below, most of the snow fell on Monday, Nov. 11.
We set a new daily record of 3.4 inches at O’Hare, shattering the previous record of 1.9 inches in 1995. Rockford got 3.2 inches, also a record.
When you combine the two days for a 48-hour snow total, the highest total was 5.7 inches in Bull Valley, but Kane County communities weren’t far behind.
Elgin led the Kane totals with 5.5 inches, and Algonquin folks (spotter in McHenry County) got 5.0. Next was St. Charles, with 4.7 inches.

We’re also in the midst of record cold. According to the NWS Chicago, we set a record low of 13 degrees on Nov. 11. More records are being set today, and we’ll report on that in a separate story.

- Today (Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2019): Sunny, with a high near 17. Wind chill values as low as -1. West northwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
- Tonight: Increasing clouds, with a temperature falling to near 4 by 8pm, then rising to around 10 during the remainder of the night. Wind chill values as low as -6. South wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
- Wednesday: A 20 percent chance of snow after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 26. Wind chill values as low as -5. South wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
- Wednesday Night: A 50 percent chance of snow, mainly before midnight. Cloudy, with a low around 20. South southwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming west northwest after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 15 mph.
- Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 31. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.
- Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 16.
- Friday: Sunny, with a high near 34.
- Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 20.
