Kirk Road, Fabyan Parkway Down To 1 Lane For Intersection Improvement
Both Kirk Road and Fabyan Parkway will be down to one lane for the next two weeks for intersection improvement work.
According to a Kane County Division of Transportation news release, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction on Kirk Road and on Fabyan Parkway between the hours of 6 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday during the weeks of Dec. 9 and Dec. 16 in order to expedite construction of temporary concrete pavement.
“Since this improvement is at an existing busy intersection, much-longer-than-normal traffic delays are expected during these two weeks,” KDOT officials said. “Motorists should expect very long delays while traveling through the work areas and should add additional time to their commutes.”
KDOT officials strongly advise drivers to seek alternate routes during this work.
The work is part of the Fabyan Parkway at Kirk Road intersection reconstruction improvement project, located on Fabyan Parkway from Kingsland Drive to Paramount Parkway, and on Kirk Road about 1,500 feet north and south of the intersection.
The addition of turn lanes and through lanes will increase safety and improve traffic operations of the intersection. The anticipated completion date for the project is Sept. 30, 2020, weather permitting.
The work consists of tree removal and replacement, earth excavation, storm sewer and drainage structures, water main relocation, hot-mix asphalt pavement, concrete pavement and sidewalk, curb and gutter installation, traffic signal modernization and lighting, shared use path and landscape restoration.
KDOT officials remind drivers that it is illegal to talk on a cell phone while driving through a highway construction work zone.
