According to a Kane County Sheriff’s Office news release, deputies were advised at around 2:05 a.m. today (Thursday, Dec. 19, 2019) that law enforcement agencies in McHenry County were pursuing a Hyundai Santa Fe that had been reported stolen out of Rockford six days ago.

The pursuit was terminated on Randall Road north of the county line, but a little later, deputies observed the vehicle traveling south on Randall Road near Huntley Road.

Reports said deputies attempted to pull the vehicle over, but it fled south on Randall and eventually went east on Interstate 90. The vehicle exited north on IL Route 25 and eventually turned onto Albert Drive.

The vehicle then drove through a fence and onto a large property owned by Beverly Material. The property is a large gravel pit and wooded area with an address of 32-W-07 IL Route 72 in East Dundee.

Deputies lost sight of the vehicle after it went onto the property. With the assistance of several area police agencies — including Elgin, East Dundee, Carpentersville, Hoffman Estates, the Illinois State Police, and the Elgin Police Department Drone team — officials conducted a search of the property.

At about 6 a.m., the vehicle was located unoccupied in the northeast portion of the property. A short time later, two suspects were taken into custody at a 24-hour laundromat near the intersection or Route 25 and Route 72.

The two subjects, a male and a female, were transported to the Kane County Adult Corrections Center.

The driver, Richard Long, 37, of South Beloit, was charged with the following:

  • Two counts of possession of a stolen motor vehicle, a Class 2 felony.
  • Aggravated fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer exceeding 21 mph over the speed limit, a Class 3 felony.
  • Aggravated fleeing and attempting to elide a police officer causing over $300 in property damage, a Class 3 felony.
  • Aggravated fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer disobey 2 or more traffic control devices, a Class 3 felony.
  • Driving while license suspended, a Class 4 felony.
  • Valid arrest warrants out of Rockford, Boone County, McHenry County, and five warrants from Winnebago County.

The passenger, Megan Pinn, 24 and homeless, faces these charges:

  • Two counts of possession of a stolen motor vehicle, a Class 2 felony.
  • Obstructing identification, a Class A misdemeanor.
  • Valid arrest warrants out of Rockford, Winnebago County, and three out of McHenry County.

The charges against Long are Pinn not proof of guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
