No. 1 — Potential Measles Exposure at 6 Kane County Locations
MEASLES ALERT: Potential Exposures at 6 Locations in Kane County
The No. 1 most-read story of 2019 was one that we’re proud of, because we were able to reach so many people with information to help keep them safe — with the potential, perhaps, to even save a life.
When the Kane County Health Department discovered a confirmed case of measles — with exposure at several Randall Road stores and doctors’ offices in Geneva and St. Charles — we were able to quickly get the word out about the locations, the times of exposure and the potential danger of being exposed.
But perhaps most importantly we were able to let people know to report the disease and the best ways to get help.
Health Department officials say the case was confirmed on May 28, 2019, and area residents were exposed before the infected person realized he or she was a carrier.
The infected person visited the At Home store, Best Buy, Colonial Cafe and Meijer on Randall Road and Northwestern Medicine Regional Medical Group St. Charles offices on Foxfield Road in St. Charles.
The story resonates because of recent news that the Chicago Department of Public Health is investigating a possible measles exposure that took place on Dec. 12 and Dec. 17 a O’Hare International Airport.
Officials said they were notified of a traveler with confirmed measles infection who visited several Chicago locations, according to WLS and other local media reports.
