As we’ve done in the past, here’s a look back at the most-read Kane County Connects articles of the year.
It’s a valuable exercise to remember the big events, people and places that captured our attention during the year, but it’s also worth our time to examine the reasons those events, people and places are so important to us.
The stories in this top 10 list quite often show how we’re connected, what we value and why this outreach experiment has been so successful.
Such is the case with the No. 10 story of the year, the celebration of our nation’s independence and the days when the “Wall That Heals” Vietnam Veterans Memorial traveled to West Dundee.

Everyone loves a parade.
And fireworks, and picnics and summer festivals.
Kane County residents also are deeply appreciative of the men and women of the armed forces, who sacrifice so much to ensure our freedom.
Kane County makes its small, annual contribution by putting together a list of the Fourth of July events that take place here.
We organize the list alphabetically by community, so that it’s just a little easier for you to find the place and activities that interest you. We also provide the links to the sources websites and social media pages, so you can find more information.
This year was special because the Wall That Heals — the traveling, three-quarters-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. — was brought here through the efforts of the Carpentersville/Dundee American Legion Post 679 and True Patriots Care.
The memorials was free to the public and open 24 hours a day from July 4 through July 7.
