Aurora police have identified the person who was killed in Sunday’s shooting on Aurora’s near east side as 20-year-old Juanya Booker of Montgomery.

In a Monday-evening update, Aurora Police Department Public Information Officer Paris Lewel said the investigation remains active and on-going and encouraged members of the public to share information regarding a pair of Thanksgiving weekend shooting incidents.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Aurora Police Department’s Investigations Division at 630-256-5500. You can also call Crime Stoppers at 630-892-1000 to leave information anonymously.

Crime Stoppers offers cash rewards up to $5,000 and anonymity to citizens who furnish information leading to the arrest of felony crime offenders and the capture of felony fugitives.

Sunday Shootings

Just before 2:30 a.m. Sunday (Dec. 1, 2019), the Aurora Police Department’s telecom center received 911 calls reporting shots fired and a person shot in the 700 block of Fifth Street.

Officers responded and found three adult victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Aurora Fire Department paramedics transported all three people to area hospitals. Two victims are presently listed in stable condition.

The third victim, now identified as Booker, succumbed to injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A short time later, two additional people arrived at Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora suffering from gunshot wounds from the same incident. They are were listed in stable condition as of the APD’s Sunday news release.

Aurora Police Department detectives responded to the scene and began interviewing potential witnesses, canvassing the area and investigating the specific circumstances. Evidence technicians from Aurora Police’s Evidence Unit collected forensic evidence from the shooting.

Detectives believe this shooting is an isolated incident and does not appear to be a random act.

“If you saw something, we need you to say something,” Aurora Police Department Investigative Services Bureau Cmdr. Jack Fichtel said Sunday morning. “No matter how small the information might seem, we need to people to come forward with any bit of information about what happened early this morning.”

Thanksgiving-Day Shooting

The Sunday shootings follow APD reports that a man was shot on on Thanksgiving day on Aurora’s East Side.

According to an Aurora Police Department news release, officers responded shortly after 1:40 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 28, 2019) to a person shot in the 900 block of North Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found a 31-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Aurora Fire Department paramedics transported the man to an area hospital, where the man was listed in critical but stable condition as of Thursday.
