Village of Montgomery Opens Its First-Ever Electric Vehicle Charging Station

The village of Montgomery took a step into the future last week when it opened a new electric vehicle charging station at Village Hall.

Village officials unveiled the new charging station for electric vehicles during a Thursday (Dec. 5, 2019) ribbon cutting ceremony at Village Hall, 200 N. River St.

The charging station was a partnership project, with Kane County providing the physical charging station and the village providing the installation and future maintenance of the station.

Village of Montgomery Senior Planner Jerad Chipman praised the partnership effort.

“(This) charging station will serve as necessary infrastructure for the future of automotive travel,” he said.

The station is the first of its kind in Montgomery and will provide residents and visitors an easy and affordable location to charge their vehicles.

Jessica Mino, resource management coordinator for the Kane County Division of Environmental and Water Resources, said she was glad to see an EV charging station at the southern end of Kane County.

“Partnering with the village of Montgomery has allowed us to expand the network and promote accessibility for all Kane County residents,” she said.

Mino said the county has now participated in the installation of four electric vehicle charging stations. In addition to the Montgomery Village Hall, Kane County EV charging stations are located at the County Courthouse on Third Street in Geneva, the Government Center on South Batavia Avenue in Geneva, and the Health Department on North Highland Avenue in Aurora.

Kane County EV charging stations are run by ChargePoint, the largest network of EV charging stations in the United States.
