Aurora Man Charged With Alleged Murder-For-Hire Plot
An Aurora man faces criminal charges for allegedly soliciting a murder.
Kane County State’s Attorney Joe McMahon has charged 32-year-old Andy Lopez with the offense of solicitation for murder for hire, a Class X felony.
Kane County prosecutors allege that on Jan. 22, 2020, Lopez posted on a social media app a request for someone to kill a specific person in exchange for $1,000.
Lopez appeared Jan. 26, 2020, in Kane County bond court. Kane County Circuit Judge René Cruz set Lopez’s bail at $100,000, with 10 percent ($10,000) to apply for bond. If he posts bond he is to have no contact with the alleged victim and he must surrender any firearms and FOID card.
Cruz set Lopez’s next court appearance for 9 a.m. Jan. 30, 2020, in Courtroom 313 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
If convicted, Lopez faces a sentence of between six and 30 years of imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
The charges against Lopez are not proof of guilt. Lopez is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
