Coroner’s Office Confirms Driver in Sunday-Night Car Crash Was Shot To Death

The Kane County Coroner’s Office has confirmed that the driver found dead after a Sunday-night crash in Aurora had been shot to death.

According to a Kane County Sheriff’s Office news release, sheriff’s deputies and officers from the Aurora Police Department responded at around 7:55 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 5, 2020) to a report of vehicle that crashed into a fence in the area of Dearborn Avenue and Beckwith Street in unincorporated Aurora Township.

As deputies arrived on scene, they learned that the driver, a 19-year-old male later identified by the Coroner’s Office as Salvadore Sciascia, had been shot.

A 20-year-old male passenger of the vehicle was transported to an Aurora-area hospital and treated for minor injuries he sustained in the crash.

Kane County Sheriff’s Office detectives and members of the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force are conducting the investigation. No suspect information is available and no motive has been established.

The Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy on Wednesday, Jan. 8. Toxicology samples were collected at the time of the autopsy and sent to a forensic lab for analysis.

Preliminary findings ascribed the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the chest.
