Elgin LoWV Holds February Candidates Forums For County, State, Congressional Races
The League of Women Voters of the Elgin Area has released its schedule of 2020 primary election candidate forums for the month of February.
The primary election is set for March 17, 2020. Early voting begins March 3.
Candidates in contested primary races have been invited to attend, and the forums will include candidates for county, state and U.S. congressional seats.
According to the LoWV news release, candidates will be allowed to participate “even if their opponents do not attend — except for federal offices, which must have at least two candidates present to participate.”
Feb. 4 Forum in Dundee Area
- When: 7 p.m., with a 6:30 p.m. meet and greet
- Where: Rakow Senior Center, 665 Barrington Ave., Carpentersville
- Candidates:
- 6th Congressional — Republicans Jeanne Ives and Gordon (Jay) Kinzler; winner will oppose Democrat Sean Casten in November
- Illinois Senate District 22 — Democrats Cristina Castro and Rae Yawer
- Illinois Legislative District 66 — Democrats Suzanne Ness and Jim Malone, and Republicans Allen Skillicorn and Carolyn Schofield
Feb. 5 Forum in Elgin
- When: 6:30 p.m., 6 p.m. meet and greet
- Where: Gail Borden Library, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin
- Candidates:
- Kane County Board Chairman — Democrats Greg Elsbree and Corinne M. Pierog; winner will oppose Republican David J. Rickert in November
- Kane County State’s Attorney — Democrats Jamie Mosser and Junaid “J” Afeef; winner will oppose Republican Robert Spence in November
- Kane County Board District 22 — Democrats Randy Hopp and Vern Tepe; winner will oppose Republican Douglas Scheflow in November
Feb. 18 Forum in Dundee Area
- When: 7 p.m., with a 6:30 p.m. meet and greet

- Illinois Senate District 22 — Democrats Cristina Castro and Rae Yawer
- Illinois Senate District 25 — Republicans Beth Goncher and Jeanette Ward; winner will oppose Democrat Karina Villa in November
- Illinois Legislative District 65 — Democrats Mohammed “Mo” Iqbal and Martha Paschke; winner will oppose Republican Dan Ugaste in November
