KDOT’s Weld Road Project Wins 2020 APWA Award
Kane County Division of Transportation’s Randall Road at Weld Road / U.S. 20 Intersection Reconfiguration Project was awarded “Public Works Project of the Year” from the Fox Valley Branch of the American Public Works Association.
The APWA Public Works Project of the Year Award promotes excellence in the management, administration and construction of public works projects.
The project was selected in the $5 million to $25 million cost category for transportation projects.
The Randall Road at Weld Road / U.S. 20 intersection reconfiguration project eliminated the east Weld Road at Randall Road connection to provide a new continuous flow ramp from northbound Randall Road to eastbound U.S. Route 20.
New signals and striping provide additional capacity for traffic along Randall Road and a safer driving experience for all motorists.
The award was accepted by Kane County Engineer Carl Schoedel and Senior Project Manager Jennifer O’Connell.
“Completing improvements to this important intersection on Randall Road was a top priority for KDOT,” Schoedel said. “We were pleased to receive recognition for the partnership and cooperation between Kane County, the design engineers and the contractor who worked together to complete this vitally needed project.”
