His black shiny coat is as sleek as a mink’s as he slinks across the floor panther-like, prowling from one end of the hallway to the other. He looks up and catches your eye as he holds your stare with his luminous gold eyes that seem to transcend the here and now.

What does he see that you can’t see? What curtain of the otherworld has he pulled back to view?

When he first meets you, he might be a little shy at first, but when you place him on your lap, he’ll suddenly turn around and give you a quick head butt to let you know he’s contented.

He lets you know when he’s needs a treat or a cuddle by giving out a small, “Mew.” And he’s not opposed to having a full-on discussion with you, if you might have the time.

His name is Hendricks, a 5-year-old Domestic shorthair that was owner-surrendered because his owner didn’t have time for him anymore. No time to cuddle, no time to watch him gaze out the window, no time to hold him in their lap and brush his glossy black coat until it shines, no time to take that five extra minutes to care.

Other cats don’t bother him. As a matter of fact, he gets along fine with most of them. Once he has met them and sniffed them and played with them, he slinks across the floor to an area where he can stretch out and take his mid-afternoon sunning.

Hendricks is a remarkable cat, still playful, still energetic, still waiting for that forever family to show him how much they really care.

How to Adopt

All Kane County Animal Control adoptable cats and dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on all vaccines, including rabies. They are tested for feline leukemia/FIV and heartworm.

The adoption fee is $200 for dogs and $100 for cats. Adoption of two dogs is $300, and adoption of two cats is $150. The adoption fee for cockatiels is $25.

About Kane County Animal Control

It is the duty of the Animal Control Department to:

  • Ensure that all domesticated dogs and cats over 4 months of age are vaccinated against rabies and have a Kane County rabies tag.
  • Ensure that all reported animal bites are given precautionary attention in relation to the possibility rabies infection.
  • Ensure that pet owners are instructed on proper procedures pertaining to animal bites and enforce adherence to these procedures.
  • Contain loose\stray dogs in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
  • Investigate nuisance dog complaints in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
