What’s the state of the Fox River in Kane County as we enter this new decade?

You’ll find out Sunday (Jan. 12, 2020), when Gary Swick, president of Friends of the Fox River, presents his annual State of the Fox River program.

The presentation takes place from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Schweitzer Environmental Center, 16N900 Sleepy Hollow Road in West Dundee.

Each year at this time, Swick reports on the health of the river, what it experienced last year, and what’s planned for it this year.

Swick is an active participant in some of the most influential and informed groups that study, protect, and enjoy the Fox River. He’s an instructor at Northern Illinois University, after retiring from Dundee Crown High School, where he taught for 34 years). He serves on the boards of Living Lands & Waters and Elgin Math & Science Academy.

He’s vice president of the Tyler and Jelke Creek Watershed Coalitions and was part of the Fox River Study Group.

At his program last year, Swick conducted a rousing celebration of anniversaries, accomplishments, and activities surrounding the Fox.
