Weekend Weather Stats: 4.5 Inches of Snow, Coldest Weather of Year, Ice Jams Cometh
It was wicked weekend in Kane County.
The risk for river ice jams is increasing and will continue through late this week, and wind chills are supposed to be as low as minus-4 degrees Tuesday (Jan. 21, 2020).
Ice jams will be possible, with the highest risk along the Fox River. Ice jams may cause rises on area rivers with little warning.
This past weekend brought an interesting mix of snow, wind chills and wind.

Strong Winds Hit Saturday
Winds as high as 51 mph swept through Kane County on Saturday.
Very Cold Saturday, Too
Wind chills were down to minus-7 degrees in St. Charles on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020.
Ice Jams Cometh
Due to the cold, conditions remain favorable for river ice formation. Additional development of river ice will likely cause some ice jams and localized rises on area rivers with little or no notice early to mid-week.
Residents in low lying flood prone areas should remain alert and stay up-to-date on the river forecasts.
Do not attempt to cross any flooded roadways. For the latest river flood warnings and statements, go to this page of the NWS website.
Looking Ahead
Quiet and dry weather Tuesday and at least into early Wednesday if not all of Wednesday. Snow, mainly light at least at first, looks to slowly move into the area Wednesday night and Thursday.
