It’s my pleasure and privilege to, from time to time, point out quality journalism here in Kane County, and it’s safe to say the series launched in today’s Daily Herald qualifies.

It’s a data-driven news analysis called Generations at Risk, and its subject matter is the important topic of education — or to be a bit more exact, the relationship between income and education in suburban schools.

From the point of view of a Kane County resident, there’s plenty of opportunity to learn more about your school and to compare and contrast the school performance and poverty levels in your district and throughout Illinois.

For your convenience, we are including here some of the information on Kane County public high schools, but for grade or middle school information and a deeper dive to the data on Kane County School districts, you have to click on this “Daily Herald report cards” link and do a search.

KEY: High school name / % low income / % meets or exceeds standards / Poverty-Achievement Index

A school with a rank of 0 is exactly average for its range. Schools above average have a positive Poverty-Achievement Index score, schools below average would have a negative score. For more on how the index was created, visit this link.
