See 7 of Elgin’s Most Beautiful Gardens June 25 at AAUW’s Fox Valley Garden Walk
Sponsored by the Elgin Area American Association of University Women, the June 25 Fox Valley Garden Walk in Elgin will feature seven of the city’s most beautiful far-west country gardens.
The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2016. Native plants, explosions of color, highlighting a new garden or reinvigorating an older garden are among the features of the 2016 Fox Valley Garden Walk.
The seven gardens, easily accessible with the ticket map, will demonstrate how neighbors have worked together to create their urban oasis.
“A common thread is the sharing of plant material between friends and neighbors,” said Jan Jones, co-chairperson of the walk. “Many home gardeners will be there to greet you, share ideas for your own garden, and bask in our admiration of their labors.”
The Gail Borden Public Library, Rakow Branch, will be featured with its many native highlights. Local artists Suzanne Massion and Jean Pechtel, will be painting “plein air” at two of the garden sites.
Tickets will be available beginning June 1 at the local Elgin Ace Hardware stores and at the local Jewel Osco stores. Heinz Brothers Garden Center in St. Charles with also have tickets for purchase. Tickets are $15 presale and $18 on the day of the walk and will be available at each garden site. Tickets will also be available online through www.eventbrite.com. Proceeds for the walk support area scholarships for women.
The Fox Valley Garden Walk is highlighted on Facebook and on the AAUW website. Further information is available from Mary Navin, 847-931-0351 or jpn98@aol.com.
