Top Stories of 2019: No. 3 — Kane County School Closings
- This article is part of a series counting down the top 10 most-read Kane County Connects stories of 2019.
I almost didn’t put this story on the Top 10 list this year, simply because it’s what we in the business call a “landing page.”
A landing page is, generally speaking, a standing post containing content that links you to other content. In this case, it’s a reference tool comprised of links to school district websites, social media pages and other sources where folks can find information on school closings in Kane County.
We link to this article and promote in the e-newsletter whenever there’s a weather event that might be considered dangerous enough to close public schools. It’s a service that people of Kane County want and need, and we’re happy to provide it.
I decided to leave it on the most-read list for a couple reasons.
First, I felt it merited story status because the content is often updated, and the time-element content is subsequently removed so that the article — even in a winter snowstorm — stays “evergreen.”
Second, and most importantly, it’s an article you just might want to bookmark. Because you know there will come a point this winter when you’ll need it.
No 3: Kane County School Closings
We’ve said this before and we’ll say it again: One of the most important outreach services Kane County Connects can provide is timely information on issues of involving public safety.
School closings are important to you, so providing that information is important to us.
As of Dec. 24, this article has received 25,714 page views.
